There are two basic varieties of Silicon carbide i.e. black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide, both of them are α-SiC.
① Black silicon carbide contains about 98.5% of SiC, with toughness higher than that of green silicon carbide.
Black silicon carbide is mostly used for processing low tensile strength materials such as glass, ceramics, stone, refractories, cast iron and nonferrous metals.
② Green silicon carbide contains more than 99% of SiC, with good self sharpness. Green silicon carbide is mostly for processing carbide, titanium and optical glass,
but also for honing cylinder sets and high-speed steel grinding tool.
In addition, there are cubic silicon carbide, which is yellow-green crystal produced by special process, the abrasive is for bearings ultra-finishing,
reducing the surface roughness from Ra32 ~ 0.16 micron to Ra0.04 ~ 0.02 microns at a time.
