General introduce of the fume hood:

Fume hood is the most commonly used exhaust equipment in the laboratory for the part area air ventilate, it is many variety, due to the different structure, use condition is different, the ventilation effect is not the same. The performance of the fume hood, mainly depends on the speed of the moving the air of the fume hood.

Laboratory ventilation is an indispensable part of in the design of laboratory. In order to make the laboratory staff don't inhale or pharynx into some unknown toxic and can cause or toxicity of chemicals and organisms, the laboratory should have good ventilation. To prevent some of the steam, gas and particles (smoke, soot, dust and air suspension) absorption of pollutants must be used fume hoods and ventilation hood or local ventilation method to remove.

The structure

        The structure of the fume hood is that it has two parts the up part, and the downside part, it has the vent on the top, for install the fan, On the top of the upside cabinet has the guide plate, circuit control touch switch, power outlet, etc

1)     The downside of the cabinet is just like the lab side bench, on the top is the table-board,

         below is the cabinet. The table-  board can install small cups and tap.

2)       The material of the fume hood is various, all steel, steel wood, all wood, aluminum, 

          wood, plastic, PVC structure, etc, and the table board is part of the operator touched,

          it is made up by the solid core physical and chemical plate, stainless steel plate, PVC,

          ceramic material and so on.

3)       The common cabinet width is 1000, 1200,1500,1800 and 2000mm, width is 700-

           900mm, height is 1900-2400. It can be used for 1-3 people at the same time. The fume

          hood normally is installed along the wall.

4)     The height of the door opening is 100-600mm, because of the fan through the open door

         inward extraction, under normal circumstances the harmful gas will not spill.

The function of the fume hood:

1)       The most important function is extract air, in the laboratory will produce many harmful gas, bad smell, dampness, and the inflammable, explosive, corrosive substances. In order to protect the security of the user, prevent the diffusion of pollutants to the laboratory, in the vicinity of pollution sources to use fume hood. Before we have few fume hoods, so can only use to the experiment which particularly harmful and dangerous gases and produce large amounts of heat.

2)       The fume hood has the auxiliary functions of the test bench. Now, considering to improve the experimental environment in recent years, in the experimental stage in experiments gradually transferred to the ventilation cabinet, this request in the fume hood should have the most suitable for the function of the equipment used.

3)       Most particularly the new laboratory are required to have air conditioning, so in the construction of the preliminary design stage that the the quantity of the fume hood have been in the plan of the air conditioning system. Because of the fume hood occupies very important position in the biochemical laboratory, from the improvement of laboratory environment, improve the labor hygiene conditions, improving the work efficiency into consideration, such as the use of the fume hood number by leaps and bounds. Followed by ventilation pipes, piping, wiring, exhaust, etc have become the important subject of laboratory construction.

The characters of the fume hood:

The purpose of using the fume hood is discharge harmful gases which is generated in the experiment, protect the health of the researchers, that is to say, for high security and excellent operability, which requires the fume hood should have the following functions:

1) Release function: the fume hood should have the function of absorb the air of outside of the cabinet and dilute the harmful gas produced inside fume hood, and extract it to outside of the room.

2) The function of prevent back flow:the fume hood should promise the harmful air in the fume hood be extracted to outside of the room, not back flow.

3) Isolating function: In front of the fume hood should have the no sliding glass Windows to separate the fume hood outside and inside.

4)Auto-completion:the fume hood should have the ability of suction air from the outside of the fume hood when it extract the harmful air.

5) The function of heat resistance and resistance to acid and alkali corrosion: In the experiments, there will be many poisonous and harmful gas such as acid and alkali with strong corrosive. So the table-board, plate, side panel and the part of the fume hood should antiseptic. And in the semiconductor industry or corrosive experiments such as sulfuric acid, nitric acid, hydrofluoric acid, the fume hoods are also required to overall material must be well protected against acid and alkali, shall adopt stainless steel or PVC materials
