        Barbary Wolfberry Fruit(Latin name:Fructus Lycii)

<Origin>

        Barbary Wolfberry Fruit is the dried ripe fruit of Lycium barbarum L. (Fam. Solanaceae). The drug is 

        collected in summer and autumn when the fruit turns orange-red. After drying in the shade to make the

        pericarp shrunken, the drug is exposed to strong sun light until the exocarp is dried and hard, and the

        pulp soft, the fruit stalk is then removed.

<Function/Indications>

        To benefit the liver and the kidney, to replenish vital essence and tinnitus; diabetes caused by internal 

        heat; anemia; impaired vision.

        In treating lassitude of the low back and knee due to deficiency of the kidney-essence, the

        drug can be used in combination with Rhizoma Polygonati.

        In treating dizziness, blurred vision and poor eyesight due to deficiency of Yin of the liver and

        kidney, the drug is often used in combination with Flos Chrysanthemi, Radix Rehmanniae

        Praeparata, etc.
