History of hanging scroll

 It was used as a kakemono (hanging) during the Northern Sung Dynasty period in China. It was used for “hanging it and worship” as hanging products. In Japan, new style of the hanging scroll began in the Kamakura era under the influence of Zen Buddhism. At this time, it was showed an expanse from the hanging scroll of the Buddhist painting for the worship to black-and-white drawings that was drawn animals, flowers, the scenery. The hanging scroll developed as ornamental purposes. When the Edo era, creating works by writers were born the value that enjoy hanging scroll. When it was the Meiji era and the Taisho era, the hanging scroll more greatly developed. In late years, the hanging scroll will be changed new design and new style.

Working process

1. Smoothing/use a brush and a water sprayer to remove creases and wrinkles, and it is  dried    

    with a press machine.

2. Cutting/cut a blank to be more beautiful. If the machine couldn’t cut, it is cut by the hand of the   

     person carefully.

3. Putting/put paper and fabric together

4. Cutting/Cut extra parts, and press to unify fabrics

5. Finishing process/Attach other parts

6. Packing and shipment/Final check and prepare for the shipment.
