Product Description

      Loropetalum is an evergreen shrub of the broadleaf variety. This bush is in the witch hazel family. 

The shrub often bears fragrant white or off-white flowers in spring. It has a spreading form and may attain a height of 12 feet with a width a bit more than half that. Also red and pink flowers.

 

The resemblance is obvious in the fragrant, spider-like flowers that bloom in late winter or early spring, when few other plants are in bloom. These plants are native to woodlands of the Himalayas, China, and Japan. Some cultivars have colorful foliage.

  

CARE: Grow Loropetalum in a woodland garden or shrub border. Chinese loropetalum prefers a rich, well-drained loam with some acidity. Keep young plants well watered.  Site in partial shade in fertile, humusy, moist but well-drained soil. Prune annually after flowering, and remove damaged or dead branches in mid-spring.
 
CHARACTERISTICS:  Fragrant, spidery flowers in late winter and early spring.

Generally problem-free.

 
As soon as seeds are ripe, sow them in containers outdoors. Or, using bottom heat, root semi-ripe cuttings in summer.
