What is Dye Sublimation (dye sub).
Dye sub is a process for dying fabric. Dye sub differs from our other techniques where we print directly onto fabric with standard ink types. To perform dye sub, there are two methods that can be used. Transfer and direct.
Indirect Transfer
The transfer method involves printing an image in reverse onto a carrier paper using a special ink. The paper print and receptor fabric are then fed through a heat press, face to face. The heat press subjects the print to heat and pressure. The ink turns directly from a solid to a gas (sublimates), transferring into the fabric.
Direct Disperse Dye
The direct method involves printing an image directly to a coated fabric with special inks (no paper). The fabric then feeds through a heat system which fuses the ink into the fabric. Both techniques dye the fabric with vibrant colour which is both colourfast and washable. The transfer method tends to give sharper image quality with more detail.
Typical Applications:
Banners, flags, upholstery, furnishings, posters, display materials, wall coverings, gaming tables, fence wrap and architectural fabrications.
Soft Signage.
You can achieve a different feel by using fabrics instead of traditional media such a paper and PVC banner. There is a theory that textiles have an emotional appeal because people connect with them due to the role they play daily in our lives. Soft signage is also practical. Textiles are light weight, easy to transport and less susceptible to getting damaged compared to pvc and papers. Sublimated textiles are more durable and solvent resistant. If your print gets dirty you can clean it in a conventional washing machine. Sublimated prints onto textiles are very rich and vibrant.
Flags.
Dye sub is a great solution for all types of flags. We can produce teardrop flags, street flags and pretty much any shape and size flag you require. Use these flags indoors or outdoors. The sublimation process ensures you will get extremely vibrant colour and you can easily clean your flag by putting it through a wash cycle in your washing machine should it get dirty. We match your requirement to the correct fabric weight and finishing technique so you get a quality product.
Materials and Finishing.
We sublimate to fabrics which we match to your requirements. We make it simple and take out the guesswork for you. Our range includes heavy textiles through to lightweight shear fabrics. Other options include blackout and non standard textured materials. Different fabrics exhibit varying degrees of show-through (image can be seen from both sides). We process the printed material with high quality finishing. Items can have custom finishing should you require specific fixings. Our expertise will ensure that you will get maximum life out of your print. Finishing can include, hemming, pockets, reinforcing, velcro, eyelets, cords, clips and toggles.
