There is something special about the place our water springs from.  Deep underground, a layer of porous rock transports and purifies rain that fell on densely forested hills 50 years ago. Decades-old rainwater travels through hidden fractures beneath the ground and into our underground water channel or aquifer, which continually confines and pressurizes the precious liquid until it emerges cleansed of all impurities  The water also absorbs essential characteristics from its subterranean environment. It’s this unique blend of added minerals that imbues Mellien Springs water with its essence.

We source draw our water at a location hydrologists have designated “932”. It’s artesian, which means it travels to the surface under its own pressure; in this case an upward journey of more than 200 metres.  And we bottle at its source.  This means Mellien water is only exposed to the air at the moment it goes into the bottle, so its purity is never compromised. The second time it meets the air is when you open your own bottle, to taste water purified by nature.

We deliver naturally clean, healthy water imbued with the dissolved minerals that provide its distinct character and taste.  And we can prove it.  Our water’s exceptionally high quality is scientifically measureable. It has been independently analysed by MWH Laboratories on behalf of the American Food and Drug Administration. 

Total Dissolved Solids

Sometimes, water is compared to wine. The quantity of minerals dissolved in the water is expressed as total dissolved solids (TDS) and is measured in milligrams (a thousandth of a gram) per litre of water. 
Low TDS waters have been compared to white wines with a light, clean, neutral taste.
High TDS waters have a heavier taste and are the red wine equivalent.

Purity

By definition, no mineral water is comprised solely of H2O (hydrogen and oxygen). However, it’s important that any additional minerals are desirable and healthy.  Nitrate levels are a good measure of the purity of a water source as they are linked to human activity levels. In its natural state, water has less than 1mg/l of nitrates. Anything above that indicates some outside influence as nitrates are easily dissolved in water and carried into water sources.

Acidity (pH)

Acidity levels are measured using pH. A highly acidic liquid would have a pH level of 1, while an extremely alkaline liquid would have a pH of 14. In the middle, a pH level of between 7.0 and 7.5 indicates neutral taste and is sometimes described as “sweet” because it is neither sour (acidic) or bitter (alkaline).  Mellien water tests in the range of 6.8 to 7.2, or neutral. So any “taste” comes is driven by its mineral component levels, rather than a sour or bitter pH.

ACCREDITATIONS

EU CERTIFICATE:
EU certification has three official categories natural mineral water, spring water and bottled drinking water. Natural mineral water and spring water can only come from specifically designated groundwater sources. Both natural mineral water and spring water must originate from a designated groundwater source or deposit and be safe to drink at source, where they must be bottled directly. Natural mineral water and spring water must be safe to drink at source without treatment or disinfectant. Natural mineral water must guarantee a stable mineral composition and health benefits associated with the water as indicated on the label whereas the mineral composition of spring water may fluctuate. Natural Mineral water is deemed premium among the three categories and Mellien Springs has this classification. This certificate is renewed annually and tests are conducted in Germany.

BIO GRO CERTIFICATE:
Mellien Springs is produced in a Bio Gro certified manufacturing plant. Bio Gro has a robust and through certification process which has three steps. The process includes an assessment of the Organic Management Plan by certification staff, on site audit by a Bio Gro auditor and an independent certification decision made by certification staff. Bio Gro carry out audits annually but also do spot checks up to five times per year without any pre warning to ensure Organic management plan is been successfully performed.Bio Gro standards meet the highest international standards. Bio Gro is audited quarterly by worldwide bodies to ensure they are meeting international standards. Although time consuming it is absolutely essential that Mellien Springs deliver a product which is authentic and meet’s all consumer expectations.

HALAL CERTIFICATION:
Halal in Arabic means lawful or permitted. Factually Halal certification gives the consumer a 100% guarantee that the product is a natural product in its natural form. In countries including New Zealand, with less stringent laws on food and beverage production Halal certification is even more important. Processing aids are not listed on labels and lubricants such as oils are used during production. Oils can be vegetable, animal or synthetic and are invariably not Halal. To be confident in what you are drinking always choose Halal certified products – Mellien Springs.

KOSHER:
Kosher certified water means the water is proper and ritually pure. The Kosher certification follows Jewish dietary laws that include, aliment, alimentation, nourishment, nutrient and nutrition. It also ensures that the processing plant has been inspected to ensure that nothing non- pure has been used in the production of Mellien Springs. Kosher, to the consumer is associated with high quality and purity.
