Basic Setup Instructions:

• You can view the complete instructions (including pictures) in our article, How to Use Mini GPS Receiver for the First Time
• Before using the Mini GPS Receiver for the first time, please charge if fully (at least 8 hours)
• Setup Step 1, Power On/Off: In power off mode, hold onto the square button for 3 seconds to power on the unit. The picture with the words ‘Mini GPS’ appears shortly and then the Mini GPS Receiver enters starting mode.
• Setup Step 2, Main Screen on Cold Start: After starting up the unit, you will automatically be at what we will call the 'Main' screen. When you first startup your new Mini GPS Receiver, the status display on the main screen will show the battery level, signal strength, time and date. Since you have just started up the GPS, it will take a few minutes for the unit to capture a GPS satellite signal, this is normal. Just be patient and wait for the signal strength icon to show the bars indicating that it is finally in contact with a satellite.
• Important note regarding Step 2, and about the functions of this product: This Mini GPS Receiver is meant for outdoor use, and in particular, use away from crowded urban areas. You can indeed use this as a location finder to locate your parked car after watching a sporting match, however its real function is geo-location tracking in open areas where you will be biking or hiking. In places with a lot of nearby tall buildings, those buildings will interfere with its ability to capture a GPS satellite signal, which will cause the receiver to not work or be ineffective in operation.
• Setup Step 3, Go into the Settings Mode and Set Date, Time, etc: After you have completed step 2, it is a good idea to change these to your location so you don't need to worry about it later. In addition, you can also set your preference for backlight time as well.
• Setup Step 4, Set POI: Your first POI (point of interest) should be the location you are at now. How to set the POI? Hold onto the SQUARE and UP or DOWN buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds, which will then set your current location as the POI. You can use this same method to set other POI's, but for our exercise this one is enough.
• Setup Step 5, Travel away from and back to POI: Now we get to play! Travel away from your original POI in a straight line. A good test should be at least 250 meters. Now when you look at your Mini GPS Receiver the digital arrow on the main screen should be pointing back at the original POI. In addition, the screen should also give you an approximation about how far away from the POI you currently are. This information appears to be real-time data, but is actually delayed by about 10 seconds, so if the numbers appear to be off by some meters, then wait a few moments and they should continue to adjust until you get a close reading. Congratulations, you have successfully used your Mini GPS for the first time. Now go out an enjoy it!
