WDM Transponder (OEO)
Transponders are fiber-to-fiber media converters that convert wavelengths for Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) applications.Powerlink transponders are protocol and rate-transparent fiber media converters that support SFP, SFP+ and XFP transceivers with data rates up to 11.32 Gpbs, and our transponders provide seamless integration of different fiber types by converting multi-mode fiber to single-mode fiber, and dual fiber to single-fiber.
Fiber-to-Fiber media converters extend network distance by converting wavelengths (1310 to 1550), amplifying optical power. Powerlink transponders as re-generators are also an optical – electrical – optical (O-E-O) converter with electrical amplification of the signal by FEC to realize long distances fiber transmission.
2.5G WDM Transponder OEO Converter comes with two SFP ports, are lindcard that can support the "Two Rs" to Regenerate and Reshape the optical signal.

WDM transponders/OEO converters can be deployed in a variety of networks and applications. Follow the detailed application diagrams:
Convert Multimode to Single-Mode Fiber
Singlemode(SM) support longer distance than mutlimode(MM) fiber, it results that network often require conversion from SM to MM. Powerlink transponders can extend a MM network across SM fiber to any distance you need.
Mode conversion is typically happend when:
a. Network distance requirements exceed the limit of MM fiber
b. The equipment uses MM ports, and connectivity is required to SM equipment.
In above application, two Switches connected by a pair of WDM Transponders which convert the MM fiber to SM and enable network connectivity across the distance between the switches.
Powerlink WDM tronsponder can also convert your 10G SFP+ Direct Attach to single mode fiber.
In above application shows two 10G switches with SFP+ ports in two different locations. The switches are connected by single-mode fiber with a pair of 10G WDM tronsponder .
In the left location, a 10m 10G SFP+ Direct Attach Cable is used to connect the 10G switch port to the tronsponder.
In the right location, a pair of multimode SFP+ transceivers provide the connectivity between the tronsponder and the 10G switches. Ideal for the long distance required to connect switches exceeds the 10 meter limitation of 10G Direct Attach Cable.
Convert Dual Fiber to Single-Fiber
1) Convert Dual Fiber to Single-Fiber Conversion between dual and single-fiber is may required in the network configuration, depending on the type of equipment and the fiber installed in the facility.
In this application, two dual fiber switches are connected via single-fiber. Single-fiber is single-mode and operates with bi-directional wavelengths, often referred to as BIDI. Typically BIDI single-fiber uses 1310nm and 1550nm wavelengths over the same fiber strand in opposite directions. In this application, the transmit (Tx) at one end of the fiber link matches the receive (Rx) from the other end, and vice versa.
2) Double Fiber Capacity with Dual Fiber to Single-Fiber Conversion
As we all know, dual fiber uses the same wavelength over two different strands of fiber; with one strand as transmit (Tx) and other strand as receive (Rx).
For example:(Picture A)
Dual fiber can be converted to single-fiber as a technique to double the capacity of the existing dual fiber infrastructure:
For picture B, in this application, new switches are added to each location, and WDM Transponder double the capacity of the dual fiber link by converting each strand of the dual fiber to a BIDI single-fiber link.
For picture C, in this application, WDM transponder double the capacity of the dual fiber link by converting each strand of the dual fiber to a BIDI single-fiber link, providing redundancy protection between the two switches.
Convert Wavelengths with Transponders
Fiber network equipment with fixed fiber interfaces (ST, SC, LC FC ,etc) operating over legacy wavelengths (850nm, 1310nm, 1550nm) must be converted to CWDM wavelengths via a WDM transponder which is to automatically receives, amplifies, and then retransmits a signal on a different wavelength without altering the data/signal content.
The above picture shows a 10G signal from a Switch and is connected to a CWDM MUX/DEMUX channel port . The fiber interface on this 10G Switch(A) uses fixed fiber SC connectors and legacy 1310nm wavelength while the channel port on the CWDM MUX/DEMUX(B) requires a CWDM 1610nm wavelength, then the Transponder is utilized.
In this application, two SFP+ transceivers 1310nm standard SFP+ and 1610nm CWDM SFP+ was required to convert wavelength.
