Right-Angle Prisms are made with bk7 and uv grade fused fused silica. Very high prism transmission can be achieved by using the hypoteduse face in total internal reflection ,and by antirefleaction coating the entrance and exit faces. Antireflection coating are discussed in the coating section of this guid .

  A Right-angle prism is used as a mirrors to deviate light throught 90degress, and zlso as a retroreflector to deflect light throught 180 degreess by total internal reflection.

90 degree deflect ion occus at the hypotenuse face. the image is erected and reversed.

180 degree deflection useds the hypotenuse as the sntrance and exit face . the mN pplication of it is used as a retroflector provied that the plane of incident includes the vertex.
