Specification of API 11AX subsurface sucker rod pump
Subsurface pump
The subsurface pump also called sucker rod pump, is applied in Petroleum industry to extract oil out of the ground, it is assembled and connected to the lower end of the sucker rod under the ground, move up and down in the well as a unit, and fixed in the tubing by seating nipple pre-fitted in the tubing at the required depth(pump setting depth). The subsurface pump can be devided into several types. Rod pump have 3 types, they are traveling barrel bottom anchor rod pump, stationary barrel heavy wall botom anchor rod pum, stationary barrel heavy wall top anchor rod pump.
Stationary barrel bottem anchor rod pump
As usual, RHB is used in the deep well, because it can bear the outer pressure but not the extension strain. However, it's not recommended to be used in the sandy well, for with no well fluid outside of the pump barrel, the pump is prone to be sucked in the tubing filled with sand.
Stationary barrel top anchor rod pump
RHA is suitable for the sand production well, because the mud fluid through the guide cage will wash down the sand between the oil tube and the the top of the pump. However, the barrel is more prone to be influenced by the inner pressure caused by the fluid and the tensile load. And, during the top stroke, the plunge tends to be incresed. Therefore, it's not recommended to use the top anchored pump
Traveling barrel bottom anchor rod pump
RHTC,RHTM is connected with the sucker rod string and moves up and down with it. The plunger is connected to the hold-down by a hollow pull tube and remains stantinary. The travelling barrel bump is recommended in the sandy well, since its movement can cause the movement of the mud fluid and wash down the sand so that there is minmum possibility for the sand blocking the bump barrel. The travelling barrel bump is especially suitable for the well that is pumped intermittently, because when the well is closed, the ball in the top cage will stay in the seat therefore the sand won't go into the pump. It's not recommended for gassy wells and viscous fluid wells. Neither is for the pumps with long stroke in deep wells.
