The Oboe, with a very clear timbre, tunes the instruments of the orchestra to its own pitch A. Combining a vast and varied ‘repertoire’, and a rich and delicate tone, the Oboe is often required to play solos or dominant roles in symphony orchestras.

The Baroque period abounds of concerti and sonatas of famous composers such as Vivaldi, Bach, Marcello, Albinoni and Telemann.
Classical composers as Mozart and Haydn and romantic ones like Schumann and Schubert, also wrote concerti for this instrument.

During the 20th century, writers like Strauss, Ibert, and Martinu considerably developed the tone and technical possibilities of the Oboe.
