Opening a Coconut

1. Assuming you are right handed, rest the nut in the palm of your left hand with the "eyes" looking to the right.

2. Using the back of a machete or heavy knife firmly strike the top of the nut. Keep striking down at different points along its circumference, rotating the nut in your hand on its axis between strikes.A crack will develop and the nut split into two halves. Do this over a bowl to catch the coconut water.

Grating the Coconut

1. To grate, switch on the motor. Hold a half nut very firmly from behind with both hands and with no fingers extending over the edge. Gloves need to be worn during this operation. Be aware they will not prevent injury if your hand comes in contact with the grating head.

2. Move the half nut slowly around the spinning grater head keeping a very firm grip on the nut while pressing towards the teeth.

3. The grated meal will lodge into the Plastic basin and can be removed after the motor

is switched off.

Clean your grater head thoroughly when finished and try to leave a coating of coconut oil or other edible rust preventative on the head when not in use for long periods.
