The Hydro power axial flow (vertical axis) turbine generator unit consists of a whole generator and turbine with non-adjustable blades on a common shaft. It’s suitable for places with low head and small flow, for example, the bank of a small river or near the base of a small dam. It requires 1 meter and 6 meters of head (vertical drop) to operate.

The channel brings the water from the dam to the turbine, then the turbine blades are funded by the water. After the water has given up its energy to the turbine, it drops down into the draft tube (made by iron or concrete). So it's the sucking of the water that spins the blades to convert the energy of flowing water into mechanical energy. The mechanical energy moves the generator to produce electricity.
The greater the head of the water above the turbine, the more energy the water can use to spin a turbine (which in turn drives a generator). The greater the quantity of water, the greater the turbine may be spun, and the greater the power output of the generator.
