Principle of operation

Due to the infra-red light source,test result may very slightly,it is essential that the facet placed over the sample on the test platform is:

A: Flat and Scrupulously Clean

B:Well Polished,Dry and Dust Free

C:At 3mm Diameter Facet

D:Carefully centered on the Examination Test Platform

Test Steps

1.The Gem should be cleaned immediately before testing by rubbing briskly with a cleaning cloth,chamois cloth provided,dipping in alcohol.It is important that the gem be “rubbed up”immediately before testing,since some material quickly absorb humidity from the air.

2.Place a clean,flat facet of the stone on the center of the test flatform.Make sure the gem is centered.

3.Press test button,RI or RF result is display on LCD.You can refer to some gem index charts to help identify your gem stone.We recommend that every gem tested two or more times,adjusting the position slightly by shifting the stone left or right or up or down,not rorating it.Don’t move the stone too far off center.If the reading are consistent in all position it is then know that the stone is well cut and a correct index is being read on the meter.If the reading vary materially,the facet is not planar cut and averaging technique must be employed to find the acccurate index.

Clean the Aperture

If any dust or lint gets into the optic apertue(on the test plstform center),false low readings can occur.Dry air from a puffer bulb or low pressure compressed air.Do not insert any object into this hole on test platform.

Calibration adjustment

If the instrument has been subjected to rought handing inshipment,or if your environments is very different in temperature,Calibration adjustment may require.

1. 1. Press TEST BUTTON until the “07”appears.
2. If “1.48 0000” is display,place scale sample(1.487)on test platform,then press test button

 

3.Press TEST BUTTON until the “04”appears,switch to other scale sample.

4.If “1.75 0000”is display, place scale sample(1.755)on test platform, then press test button.

5.Press TEST BUTTON until the”04”appears,return normal test status

 

 

R.I.and R.F.Display Switch

On testing status,press TEST BUTTON UNTIL”04”appears on the LCD.You can switch between refractive index and reflective index.RI or RF flag and temperature(te)is displayed on the left corner of the LCD

 

Battery Replacement

When digit on the LCD is flashing,replace the battery.Open the bottom cover to replace the battery.
