The following details are for the fitting of the Pool fence clamp
Initial considerations
The clamp is designed for the support of 10mm to 12mm toughened safety glass panels
The clamp needs to be securely fixed at the base either with 4 N° 12 countersunk fixings or 4 N° M6 countersunk machine screws, these are not supplied by Jiangmen Jiangyi Hardware with the component as the installer needs to be sure the fixings are adequate for the material being attached to. It is recommended at least 3 clamps are used per 1000mm for example a 1000mm panel will need 3 clamps set 350mm centre to centre. The glass will need holes to receive the through bolt, if the glass has been made without holes the clamp can be used without the through bolt but will deflect further when pushed.
Safety considerations
Toughened glass is very strong (typically 5 times stronger than standard glass) it is safe because in the event of failure it breaks in to small pieces (shatters) it is prepared so as not to present sharp edges but severe impact on the edges will result in failure
Installation recommendations
It is easier to install the clamps to the glass first,
Stand the glass on clean timber blocks with the holes at the top (Upside down from the final fitting position)
Remove the through bolt from the clamp back off the two grub screws so they are not protruding in to the clamp, remove the clamp plate & PVC isolation strip
Wrap the PVC isolation strip over the glass so the hole coincides with the hole in the glass
Feed the clamp over the isolation strip and then slide the clamp plate in between the isolation strip and the side where the grub screws are, gently tighten the grub screws so the clap plate is firmly held against the PCV strip, Do NOT fit the through bolt at this stage as the clamps will need to be removed later to fit cover plate.
Once all clamps are fitted to the panel it can be turned over and placed in the desired location, using a drill & drill bit 7mmØ spot mark the holes through the base plate holes.
Now move the panel out of the way and drill the holes, note hole size drilled will be decided by the type of fixing being used, for example if fitting to hard wood plinth a small relief hole will be required or a 5mm drill required pre tapping if attaching with M6 machine screws.
Mark the pool fence clamp base with a marker pen to identify its location this ensures each base plate will correspond with the drilling location on the project, this eliminates any slight misalignment that may occur due to manufacturing tolerances.
Once the holes are ready the pool fence clamps can be fitted by removing them from the glass, then secure to the structure in accordance with the markings, slide the cover plate over the clamp and if required secure with some silicone sealant under the cover
