Clutch bags have been popular since the 19th century in both Europe and America.

For several generations, fashion decreed that the clutch would be totally unused, and, indeed, all but forgotten by most women. Shoulder bags and similar larger purses became the rule, partly because leather was a sign of ostentation in the sudden abundance of manufactured goods that the 20th century brought.

During World War II, the  shortages of everything – including the leather used to make purses, resulted in small purses coming back into fashion, since these were the only purses that could be made, and the clutch bag was reborn.

Today the variety of clutches available run into their thousands, of individual designs.  Recently we have seen the trend of box clutches. These cute box clutches are the perfect size to carry around and to carry your essentials, (your phone, some cash and your lippie!)
