Project Introduction:

Qingdao Wanda Eastern Cinema Centre is a super-large complex of culture, tourism and commerce, including indoor roller coaster, indoor water park, indoor film park and other commercial items. It is a rectangular building about 320 m × 430 m from overhead view and up to 47.7 m high. We are required to decorate 6 movie stars’ photos on 4 glass facades of 200m to 300m long and 16m to 26m high. The theme must be distinctive and with strong visual impact.

Facade Design:

In order to match the theme of design, we make the glass facade as one three-folder elevation structure. The east and west elevations each has an arc folder up and down. How to print the photo on such special shape facade, on folding surface and on inclined triangular glass? How to ensure the high recognition and visual beauty? We try many kinds extending projection and 3D simulation to ensure the accuracy of final effect.

Photo treatment:

The photos are not of high definition and some very small, but it need to be reflected on the facade of dozens of meters. In this case we have to do a lot of work on redrawing the photos to ensure the definition and human manner. The selected photos were taken at different time, with different ratios, from different angle, and with different light and shadow, therefore we must make the following treatments to the photos.

First, modify the proportion among black, white and gray; Second, modify the shooting angle and size proportion to make them harmonious; Third, the most important work, redraw the face which is not clear including eyebrow, hair, eyelid, even the skin, and also skeleton muscle according to film stills and videos.

To achieve a better effect under light, we optimize the photo design on the glass and make a special mix of the frosted ceramic inks.

In Qingdao Eastern Cinema Centre project, the glass facade is required to show a clear photo with unique style at daytime, and show perfect LED animation and flood lighting at night. So the glass must have one special base color which at daytime should show beautiful vintage green and also can shield the structure, light belt and other things backside, at the same time it will not influent the LED animation at night. To meet this requirement, we modify the frosted ceramic inks and make compound test for many times.

Quality and Supplement:

To make it easy for quality supervision and installation, we print the only ID on the corner of every piece of glass. By this ID, we can find its size, structure, location, direction, design, color No., print parameter and other information from the database. Only this ID or location drawing is needed for supplement.
