Optical Turnstile with Bi-Directional Motorized Barriers

AESTHETICSThe beautiful Speed Gate Speed1 is the thinnest motorized barrier optical turnstile available. The Speed1's slim cabinets are only 120mm wide (about the width of your hand). The turnstile's rounded lines and clear materials enhance the look of any lobby or entrance area and provide excellent sight lines for attendants or guards in case of security events or emergencies.

The Speed1's compact floor footprint allows more lanes to fit in a smaller space. Center expansion cabinets have the same dimensions as end cabinets, allowing space saving multi-lane configurations. The Speed1 optical turnstile maintains the same cabinet dimensions even when providing ADA-compliant passage widths. Barrier panels may be ordered in three heights (900mm, 1200mm or 1800mm) to best match operational requirements.

OPERATION the Speed1 optical turnstile provides highly effective access control. When an authorized user presents a valid credential, the barriers open quickly and precisely away from the user, in the same direction of user travel. Panel movement is controlled through closed loop position control which monitors panel position every 1/1000 of a second. This provides quick, precise and quiet panel operation. As the user passes through the turnstile, the barriers smoothly return to the closed position (ready for the next valid credential) or, if another credential has been presented, the panels stay open for the next users’ passage. Called “stacking” of credentials, this feature supports high user throughput.

INTUITIVE FOR USERS AND STAFF the Speed1 is highly intuitive for users and staff. Illuminated status icons on the lid and audible sounds prompt users, and provide clear notification of card status. The various alarm conditions (e.g., unauthorized entry; loitering in lane; tailgating, etc.) are differentiated by light flashing patterns and through the use of sounds which vary depending on the alarm type and direction. The Speed1 comes with standard sounds or users can substitute their own custom audio.

THROUGHPUT The Speed1 supports rapid user throughput. Rapid entry is supported through the Speed1 panel operation, which moves away from the user upon valid card presentation. To further speed entry throughput, the turnstile supports “stacking” of valid entries, meaning the turnstile can queue multiple valid entries without requiring the panels to close after each individual patron. Additionally, if a subsequent valid credential is presented during the panel closing cycle, the panels stop in mid-cycle and immediately reopen; users do not need to wait until the opening/closing process completes. Depending on the application and response time of the access system used, throughput rates of up to 45 persons a minute can be reasonably expected.

PASSAGE MODES The Speed1 has multiple passage modes. The turnstile can provide controlled operation in both directions (card in/card out). The turnstile can also provide controlled entry and free passage operation for environments where users are not required to “credential out" for exit. In free passage mode, users can walk directly into the passage lane at a normal pedestrian pace and the panels will automatically open without requiring the user to slow down. Individual turnstiles or select travel directions (e.g., entry as opposed to both entry and exit) can also be closed during off hours or slow periods.

UNWANTED ENTRY DETERRENCE The Speed1 optical turnstile is also a highly effective means of deterring and detecting unwanted entry. Proud’s sophisticated detection technology detects unauthorized access attempts and "tailgating" behind an authorized user. In the event of an invalid entry or exit attempt, the turnstile lights and sounds notify the user and alert attendants. Additional notification outputs are also provided, allowing integration with remote alarms, door locks, CCTV or other devices.

SAFETY The Speed1 has a number of safety features and is one of a select few turnstiles manufactured that is CE marked. In addition, the Speed1 features a dedicated emergency input for fire/life safety. If the emergency input is triggered (e.g. via fire alarm system), the barrier panels swing open in the exit direction and remain open until reset to allow free egress. In the event of power loss, the barrier panels can be moved freely with very minimal force.

INSTALLATION AND COMMISSIONINGInstead of having to "tweak" each and every turnstile (e.g. adjust individual home/end positions), the Proud products are nearly perfect right from the start. Proud takes great pride in keeping things simple for installers, minimizing deployment time and avoiding unneeded future complications. The SPEED1's standard operation settings are ideal for a majority of applications, but adjustments can be easily made through included utilities.

EMBEDDED IP-BASED COMMUNICATION Embedded IP-based communication and configuration functionality is built into all Speed1 optical turnstiles, making it possible to adjust core turnstile settings via a local and/or remote TCP/IP network session. An included TCP/IP application, LaneConfig, allows authorized security personnel and technicians to load software updates and set individual turnstile parameters including:

• Alarm sounds and alarm timer settings • Optical settings for detection of lane passage, tailgating • Motor settings, barrier breakaway, sensitivity and speed settings

The Speed1’s embedded IP-based functionality also allows advanced configuration and control using a secure web page that can be viewed in a standard Web browser. This includes setup of IP addresses, network adapter and other settings. Additional remote desktop tools allow troubleshooting and diagnostics without an actual physical presence at the turnstile. Proud has an ongoing program to update the capabilities of its embedded IP capable devices.

INTEGRATION WITH ACCESS CONTROL AND VISITOR MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS The Speed Gate Speed1, like all Proud optical turnstiles, easily integrates with nearly any access control system. Each side of the turnstile allows interior (under the lid) installation of a mullion sized proximity reader at each end of the turnstile. Larger, or non-proximity-type, readers can be accommodated through customized attachment or through the use of an integrated pedestal.

Similarly, the Speed1 is an ideal complement to current visitor management systems. Instead of requiring surface mounting of bulky, omni-directional readers (as is the case with competitors’ products), Proud provides an option to interior mount a 1D/2D barcode imager into the end of the Speed1 cabinet. This allows guests or visitors to insert a bar coded card into the recessed area, and eliminates potential damage issues with bags or equipment hitting a surface-mounted reader.

The Speed1 also has a dedicated single–time entry override input that allows simple integration of a visitor management system and/or the implementation of a guard station push button.

OPTIONS & CUSTOMIZATIONS The Speed1 has over a dozen available options. Alternate lid colors and materials, color poder coated cabinets, barrier side panel etching, static or dynamic side panel illumination, multiple barrier heights, and an integrated barcode reader are just an example of some of the available options.

Gatekeeper (TURNSTILE CONTROL AND MONITORING SOFTWARE)Gatekeeper is a desktop application typically installed at a guard or attendant desk that allows installed Speed1 turnstiles to be monitored and controlled from a single PC. GateKeeper has an intuitive graphic interface that gives desk attendants a current status of all turnstiles, including an immediate notification of alarm conditions.

GateKeeper also includes the ability to set up scheduling templates that allow turnstile mode changes to be implemented automatically.

Speed1 turnstiles are made in China in our 1000m² manufacturing facility. The normal lead time for ten turnstiles or less is one week.
