Description of sand barrier system
Field survey found that when the sand barrier system is 1.5M high, aperture ratio 40%, it can block half of the sand that falls on the windward side, the other half of the sand goes through the sand barrier system and falls on the leeward side. Thus the sand barrier system is protected from collapsing. It forms a flat near the barrier to slow down the wind speed. The sand will eventually stop at the railway fence evenly and forms a sand resistance dike (artificial dike) which has a significant effect of sand blocking.
In most cases, even if the sand barrier system fence was completely buried in the sand to form an artificial dike, it still plays a role in blocking the sand in the subsequent long period of time.
Application of sand barrier system
The railway go through desert and Gobe areas is facing poor natural conditions. Traffic is frequently suspended due to the strong wind and sand. People plant trees, shrub and grass along the railway to prevent the wind and fix the sand. But due to drought and water shortage, the survival rate of these plants is low and the cost of maintenance is high. It is difficult to solve the problem of sand resistance and sand damage fundamentally.
Taking the advantage of aerodynamics and the force of wind, steel sand barrier reduces the capability of wind transport and deposition by blocking the sand and deflecting the wind, thereby the railway is effectively prevented from sand burial.

All the bolts and nuts used in the project are stainless steel, sand barrier panel is connected to the steel structure by bolts and nuts. The panel connector is also fastened by bolts and nuts.
