50 ohm DC-3GHz 5W Dummy Load
In radio terminology, a dummy load is a device used to simulate an electrical load. Also known as a dummy antenna or a frequency termination, this device is ordinarily used as the substitute of an antenna during radio transmitter tests. A dummy load is a mandatory device for radio amateurs in many countries when they attempt to connect their transmitters’ radio frequency (RF) output with a non-radiating load.

Normally, a dummy load should be made a pure resistance. The construction materials, as a result, have to be able to produce that kind of resistance. The dummy loads on the market are often consisted of black passivated aluminum, gold plated brass center conductor, nickel plated brass coupling nut, PTFE insulator, parallel aluminum oxide ceramic resistors. Radio amateurs, on the other hand, may have their own versions of dummy loads made of less advanced materials.
These dummy loads can produce maximum power of 5 watts, 25 watts and 60 watts or higher, depending on the specific materials they are made of.
The amount of resistance a dummy load produces should be the same as the impedance of the antenna or transmission line used with the transmitter.
