1) Production:
"Manohar International India is the largest producer and consumer of cumin seeds, with annual production ranging between 150,000 and 300,000 tonnes. Rajasthan and Gujarat are the two major states producing an enormous quantum of cumin, contributing 90 per cent of India’s total production. About 80 – 85% of the produce is consumed in India as the domestic demand is very high.
Cumin seeds is cultivated in countries such as Syria, Iran, Turkey, China and Latin America besides India.
India contributes about three-fourth of the total global cumin seed output.
2) Seasonality:
Jeera ( Cumin seeds ) is a rabi crop in India and sowing is done during October to November. Harvesting starts from February and extend till March. April is the peak arrival season of cumin Seeds.
3) Export Country:
India accounts for almost 70-75 per cent of the world’s production, but consumes almost 80-85 per cent domestically, with only 15-20 per cent exported. India is major exporter of cumin Seeds in global market followed by Syria and Turkey. Normally, India exports cumin during the months of February, March and April.
