1. Read instruction before use.
2. Make sure package is not damaged.
3. Make sure there is no leak when you inhale through mouthpiece.
4. Try and be as comfortable as you can. Sit and sit straight if you can. You can use a pillow or towel to support where you had surgery.
5. Hold or stand the “Respiratory Exerciser” in an upright position.
6. Exhale (breathe out) normally. Then place your lips tightly around the mouthpiece. Don't block the opening in the mouthpiece.
7. Inhale (breathe in) slowly to raise the ball in the cylinder. Continue inhaling and try to raise the ball indicator to the level of the graduation or as high as you can.
8. Try to inhale longer, then hold your breath for two to three seconds, and then slowly let the air out.
9. Cough deeply as you exhale. This will help bring up mucus so that you can cough it out.
10. You should breathe in and out through the mouthpiece (not your nose).
11. Repeat steps 5 through 8 for a total of 10 times every 1 to 2 hours or as directed by your doctor.
