Gold Mining is include Alluvial Gold and Stone Gold. In China, since 1970's, 75% gold stone gold, 25% gold is alluvial gold.

Alluvial Gold need to wash first, then trap gold by sluice or concentrator.

For Stone Gold, it need to crush first, then grind to powder, then extract gold according to gold bearing material.

1. Crushing Material to 30-40 millimeter

2. Grind Material to 100-200 mesh.

If the investment is limited, miner can only use cursher to crushing rock to powder. Then wash gold out. But gold recovery rate is very low. After hundreds years of technology improve, for now based on different type gold ore, the mining method is different. But the popular method is Gravity methods, Mercury methods,  carbonitriding methods,  CIP adsorption method,  heap leaching methods, etc..

They all required gold powder. The smaller, the better.

So we need to grind material to 100-200 mesh. For this purpose, there is two mature and suitable machine. They are Wet Pan Mill and Ball Mill.

Generally, Ball Mill suit for big mine site, Wet Pan Mill is a great choice for a  beginner.

3. Extract gold from gold bearing material.

Based on different type gold ore, the mining method is different. 

Mercury Process

Old and popular gold mining methods. Suitable for Primary Ddeposit of Quartz Vein and Oxidized Ore, with Coarse Gold inside.

Mercury-Gravity Process

a) Mercury first, then gravity. Suit for Simple Quartz Vein Gold Ore.

b) Gravity first, then mercury. Suit for coarse gold, but the surface is polluted or covered by oxidation film. This ore can't mercury first.

Mercury-Gravity Combine Process

a) Mercury first, then gravity. Suit for Simple Quartz Vein Gold Ore.

b) Gravity first, then mercury. Suit for coarse gold, but the surface is polluted or covered by oxidation film. 

Gravity-Mercury-Carbonitriding Combine Proces

This method suit for the quartz vein gold bearing oxidized ore. First Gravity, then mercury, at the end carbonitriding.

Floatation Process

Suit for fine gold, high floatable, high sulfide quartz ore, polymetallic sulfid gold ore, and  black lead ore.

Mercury-Floatation Combine Process 

Suit for  Gold bearing oxidized ore and associated with the free gold ore. Higher gold recovery rate than floatation Process.

Directly Carbonitriding Process 

Suit for that, gold is very fine and disperse in quartz ore. The ore is high oxidized, and don't include  Cu, As, Sb, Bi and Carbon bearing materail.
