SERES is probably the best known name in Ballast Monitoring for Hydrocarbons.  SERES is based in Aix-en-Provence France was invited by IMO in 1973 to develop a sea going analyser system to measure hydrocarbon in dirty ballast water to meet the new proposed MARPOL regulations.  

This study was in collaboration with companies such as BP and Shell at Shell’s Thornton Research Centre.

Since these early days the SERES ODME has been developed keeping up with the changes in IMO Regulations up to the current MEPC 108 (49).  

These current regulations are met by the: 
Seil-Seres S3000.

A critical design feature for SERES has been the interchangeability of their ODME monitors enabling a ship owner to upgrade an aging SERES system simply and cheaply. We at SERES-UK have awealth of experience in these system upgrades.
