About “ Konpeito ”

Konpeito had arrived in Japan from Portugal over 500 years ago, the age of Civil Wars. Then Luís Fróis, a Portuguese missionary present konpeito to Oda Nobunaga with other gifts. At present konpeito has become a traditional sugar confectionery loved by Japanese people. It is also seen as a luxury Japanese confectionery, appreciated for its vivid color and the way it is lovingly and painstakingly handcrafted, and is often given as a present to guests at wedding receptions. In recent years, it is also being re-embraced by the younger generation as a ""kawaii"" (cute) confectionery.

The konpeito is packed in cute individual wrappers and weighs approximately 7g. Each pack contains just the right amount, neither too much nor too little for a woman to enjoy all in one go. It is also convenient for sharing and carrying on the move.  Konpeito is included as an emergency food. It is better than other energy sources, rock sugar and other sugars, because not only the prickly shape induce the secretion of saliva and aid chewing other dry emergency food, but also the colorful and cute appearance can reduce the stress under the disaster. In such a scene individual wrappers are very helpful.

Konpeito's popularity is on the rise since 2014, as a subject of Japanese ""kawaii"" (cute) culture. Spin-off goods inspired by konpeito are also on the increase.

Also, they are popular among foreigners as a traditional Japanese confectionery. (Our company handles it as candy (food product)).

How Our Konpeito is made.

We received five awards at the 25th Himeji Confectionery Fair in 2008: the Gold Award, Overall President's Award, Judges' Merit Award, Overall Grand Prize for Honor, and All Nippon Kashi Association President's Award.

Our workers make our products adhering to the traditional methods of production. Growing the beautiful protrusions takes enormous amounts of time, so much so that a 1g piece of candy takes about ten days to create.

We do not use any food additives (such as artificial colorings, sweeteners, flavoring agents or stabilizing agents), apart from natural food coloring.

After having you answer some simple questions required for an estimate such as the amount of items you would like, we usually provide a sample for free. Though we do ask that you pay for delivery. If the sample size is large then we will ask for a sample fee as well. Delivery shall be made by EMS, and we ask that you pay for the delivery charge by PayPal. 

Samples will be dispatched within 3 days of receiving the request, and will reach you in the time frame required to arrive in your region.

Among our group companies is UHA Mikakuto, one of Japan's top-class candy makers.

Mikakuto has standalone sales of ¥28 billion, and employee numbers exceed 700 people, including part-time staff.

The company has two domestic production facilities, one production facility in Shanghai, offices in Shanghai and Jakarta, and a trading company (Moel Co., Ltd.) in Hong Kong.

Not only does the company have financial ties to MDH, but they also engage in practical cooperation in such areas as product development information exchange, private brand product development, and production.

Expanding abroad

Currently our sales efforts are predominantly aimed at the domestic market. However, our sales companies are exporting to East Asia (sales primarily achieved in China, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand).
