Ballerina" tea is a green tea marketed as "3 Ballerina Tea." Although it is promoted as a weight loss product, weight loss is a side effect of its real function as a diuretic and laxative. Its natural ingredients detoxify the body, and because of the tea's resulting fast colon-cleansing action, more calories are often burned than consumed. The weight lost by drinking this tea is mostly water weight.
The Facts
- The active ingredients in 3 Ballerina Tea are Cassia Angustifolia (Senna) and Malva Verticellata (Chinese Mallow). Senna is a stimulant that works as a cathartic laxative, and is an excellent herb for those who suffer from constipation, bloating and gas. It is the main ingredient in the well-known laxative Ex-Lax. Chinese Mallow is a diuretic and anti-inflammatory used to treat urinary tract infections, excessive mucous and gastritis. In larger amounts, Chinese Mallow also works as a laxative. Neither of these ingredients are appetite suppressants, and there is no evidence that it is affective in fat loss. 3 Ballerina Tea, as in most teas, also contains catechin polyphenols, antioxidants that destroy free radicals and also slow the aging process.
History
- The origins of this herbal tea come from a recipe written in a Chinese medicine book by 16th century Chinese herbalist Lee Sze-Zhen. The active ingredient Senna is used for constipation. Chinese Mallow has been grown in China for more than 2,500 years. Its leaves are used in teas to calm the digestive system, soothe sore throats and bronchial membranes. Lee combined Senna with Chinese Mallow to produce a tea that cleansed the intestines and urinary tract.
Dosage
- Because digestive systems are different, take 3 Ballerina Tea in small amounts at first and gradually increase the strength and amounts as you maintain tolerance. A good beginning strength formula is 2 cups of boiling water poured over one teabag, steeped for two to three minutes. If that is too strong, add more water. Have no more than two cups a day. After one week, reduce the amount of water by 1 cup poured over one tea bag. Drink three times a day after meals. Do not drink more than three cups daily.
Benefits
- 3 Ballerina Tea relieves constipation, irritable bowel syndrome and other gastric discomforts such as bloating, gas, belching and distended stomach. The manufacturer claims it to be healthier than prescription suppositories because it has no chemical additives or caffeine and can help save you the embarrassment of a trip to the hospital for manual expulsion. Because 3 Ballerina Tea is a purgative, weight loss is a byproduct of its laxative and diuretic effects.
Warnings
- Consult your health care provider before drinking 3 Ballerina Tea if you have intestinal problems or suffer from Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. Children, the elderly and pregnant or nursing women should not drink 3 Ballerina Tea. Because of its diuretic and laxative affects, 3 Ballerina Tea may lower potassium levels in the body. Allergic reactions may include breathing difficulties, facial swelling or hives. Prolonged use can cause dependency, chronic diarrhea or severe constipation withdrawal after discontinuing use, clubbing of the fingers or toes and abdominal cramping.
