Sweet Fennel essential oil, steam distilled from the fennel seeds.

The oil is obtained by steam distilling the crushed seeds to get a highly aromatic, licorice-smelling essential oil.

The main chemical components of fennel oil are a-pinene, myrcene, fenchone, trans-anethole, methyl chavicol, limonene, 1,8-cineole and anisic aldehyde.

The therapeutic properties of fennel oil are aperitif, antiseptic, antispasmodic, carminative, depurative, diuretic, emmenagogue, expectorant, galactagogue, laxative, stimulant, stomachic, splenic, tonic and vermifuge.

Fennel essential oil has a sweet, earthy, anise-like aroma that is energizing, vitalizing, and balancing. It is stimulating to the circulatory, glandular, respiratory, and digestive systems. Fennel oil is a remedy for digestive complaints such as flatulence, constipation, colic, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, dyspepsia and hiccups. It is also used in cases of obesity, as it promotes that 'full feeling' and has a diuretic effect that helps to disperse cellulite.

Fennel can be used for cystitis, sluggish digestion, fluid retention, gout, intestinal parasites, intestinal spasms, nausea, menopause and pre-menopause problems.  It can also be used for indigestion, stimulating the cardiovascular system, constipation, balancing hormones, supporting pancreatic function, PMS, and stimulating the respiratory system.  It may break up fluids and toxins and cleanse the tissues.

Fennel essential oil is a wonderful skin tonic and is great for puffy eyes and skin as it reduces water retention and helps minimize wrinkles.  It helps maintain  elasticity of the skin and connective tissue, as well as muscle tone.
