Cooling fan is a device that creates airflow by using a motor to rotate blades. They are essential in the smooth operation of many sophisticated machines, such as electronic equipment for ventilation and cooling. Cooling fans use a propeller to generate air flow in the direction of the axis of rotation. Capable of generating a large air flow, axial flow fans are suited for applications requiring ventilation cooling.Cooling fan has the performance and reliability to support various commercial and industrial air moving requirements. Available in AC and DC axial fans, Fans can be provided for a wide range of voltages, DC fans are available in selected 12, 24 volt versions. All AC products are offered in 115 and 230 volt versions and compatible with either 50Hz or 60Hz power sources. Selection of Cooling Fan
It’s important to select Cooling Fan for the right applications, larger frame size and higher fan speed generally increase airflow, but since higher speed also creates more pressure and noise, the optimum selection will depend on a balance between space available and acceptable noise levels. It is worth nothing, however, that it can be difficult to achieve high reliability within the smallest of frame sizes not least because of the lack of space for adequately sized ball bearings. The thickness of the fan determines its pressure capability, All other things being equal selecting a thicker, and so higher pressure rated fan will normally deliver more airflow against a given system pressure and this may be a more practical alternative for increasing the effective cooling than fitting a higher speed or a larger framed fan. Bearing Type
The relationship between the bearing and the fan is a positive relationship. if the bearing runs breaks, so does the fan. There are different bearing types to consider. There are sleeve type bearing, Dual ball bearing type.
Sleeve bearing benefits: Less noise, lower cost, good shock/vibration resistant.
Dual ball bearing benefits: Long life, less orientation sensitive, wider temperature range.
The life hours increase as you move from left to right. sleeve bearing, compared to Dual ball bearing, tend to be quieter at the initial start and relatively less expensive. As for the ball bearing, it can operate better under extreme temperature.
Sleeve bearings have a life around 30,000 hours or the equivalent of 6years under normal, 8-hour conditions. At the initial point, a sleeve bearing fan is much quieter than a ball bearing. As time sleeve bearing will start losing lubrication and will become noisier than its counterpart.
The life on ball bearing fans are come what different. The life of a ball bearing will, typically, last twice as long than that of a sleeve.
At initial use, the sleeve is much quieter. But if there is a rise in temperature, the sleeve bearing will lose lubrication much faster, leading to faster thermal breakdown.
Still, sleeve fans remain relatively quiet up until the lubrication is gone; whereas ball bearing fans get noisier shortly after it starts.
Airflow
Note, however, that the airflow figure in fan data sheet applies to their unrestricted free-blowing operation and who uses a fan under those conditions? They are purely useful for comparative purposes - components, heat-sinks, PCBs and other mechanical features produce a back pressure that reduces the airflow, and slows the fan’s speed. The more obstructed or complex the air path, the higher will be the static pressure, therefore, designers need a performance curve to predict airflow for a given static pressure. As illustrated by Figure 2, this performance is non-linear, and can lead to significantly lower airflow rates than the data sheet figure. Although it is possible to model and simulate system behavior, simple measurements on prototypes are often the most practical approach to establishing the airflow / static pressure relationship for a particular system, and thus the fans true working point requirements.
