After continuous development and progress in recent years, the technology development has been very ripe presently. It has been widely used in US, Europe and other countries of Asia, and unanimously approved by the operators. IP transmission mode has many characteristics compared with traditional ASI mode, such as using fewer cables to replace twisted pair, using switch board instead of complex matrix and offering universal Gbe port to convenient digital TV service accessibility, and etc. The following diagram is a simple front-end schematic diagram of IP-based transport, the program source showed in the figure include remote IP signal, output IP signal after local encoded, as well as other IP format signal. Program source signal goes into Ethernet Switch directly, after the aggregation is performed by the switch, the digital television content management platform will multiplex and scramble the input stream, and then transmit the MPTS to Ethernet Switch over UDP protocol. Finally, QAM modulator will receive Gbe Ethernet data output RF signal, and transmit to local HFC network. Or, the Gbe Ethernet data can be directly transmitted to remote end via IP transportation, setting IPQAM modulator to output stream or be transmitted directly to the use of lower-level headend as program sources.
IP-based DTV headed transmission platform and its advantages
Firstly, IP transmission structure becomes relatively simpler, cables between the devices significantly reduced. Eliminating the need for the original matrix and jumper frame, save a lot of rack space, reduce intermediate links, so that the system becomes clear and concise, and easier management and maintenance;
Secondly, using switch to replace matrix. Matrix is used for single device, but switch adopts 1:1 hot backup mechanism to improve the security of the system, and make the system more stable and reliable;
Thirdly, greatly improve system flexibility using IP transmission mode. Using IP to transmit digital program, our system assembly will become very flexible. Encoder, multiplexer, modulator and other devices can be placed in the center room, or be placed in any remote with IP network. For example, encoder, we usually place it in the machine room, but if there is an important meeting in other place, we have to take the encoder to that site to do the encoding and output IP to the front end machine room. But now it is very convenient to encoding and transmitting for the site reporting. QAM modulator is also similar, can be placed on the front end or be placed on the remote.
If general front end using IP transmission mode, we can transmit IP signals of multiplexer directly through the IP transfer network to the sub-front end, and the sub-front end only need to use IPQAM to receive and modulate the signals, and then transmit to the local HFC network. If several cities can use IP transmission mode at the same time, we also can package the important programs to IP transmission network to mutual backup.
Lastly, IP transmission mode enhances system scalability, and easy to carry out the new digital TV business. Traditional ASI transport platform because of its structural relationship, there are certain drawbacks in terms of new business development of the digital TV, while IP transport platform just to solve this problem, it can easily realize time-shifted TV, digital mosaic, dynamic EPG business and the like.
