Differences Between LED Lights and Traditional Light
1. Brightness
LED lights are much more efficient at utilizing wattage (measure of energy usage) to produce lumens (measure of brightness). For example, to produce 450 lumens, an LED light bulb only requires 5 watts, whereas a traditional incandescent light bulb requires 40 watts.
2. Efficiency
Bulb efficiency is determined based on the overall lifetime of the light bulb, the annual cost and the wattage used to produce light. A standard LED light as an average lifespan of 50,000 running hours. In contrast, an incandescent light bulb producing the same level of brightness only has a lifespan of 1,200 running hours. The efficiency of LED lights leads to substantial energy savings. An LED light bulb has an annual average running cost of around $30. An incandescent light bulb producing the same amount of light would cost roughly $325 annually.
3. Environmental Impact
LED lights are a much more eco-friendly lighting solution than incandescent light bulbs. A household using LED light bulbs instead of incandescent light bulbs can drastically diminish their carbon footprint. Carbon dioxide emissions are a significant contributor to greenhouse gases which have been found to have an effect on global climate change. A household using 30 incandescent light bulbs in a year would create 4500 lbs. of carbon dioxide emissions.
