Siemens officially unveiled their smallest ever RiC (Receiver in Canal) hearing aid at the 57th annual International Congress of Hearing Aid Acousticians 2012 (EUHA) in Frankfurt on October 24. The device, which also features their impressive, brand new Micon platform, fits discretely behind the ear and works well for a wide range of hearing losses—from mild to severe. Sales trends show hearing aid buyers in Germany and Europe tend to favor BtE (Behind the Ear) models and many choose to utilize RiC’s, which places the amplifier portion of the hearing aid directly into the ear canal.

Making an Ace

Siemens’ first step toward making their ultra-small RiC was to use the smallest hearing aid parts available. The device is not only energy efficient, but can also withstand extended periods of use than previous models. For wearers with moderate hearing loss, this can mean up to 5 days of usage with a size 10 battery. An added plus is that the device is available with two housing options. One option contains a program on the device that can be adjusted as needed. The other, comes with fully automated options.
