Aspherical lens is a single element optical component with one aspheric surface. It can often replace a much more complex multi-lens system because the aspheric surface can reduce or eliminate spherical aberration and also reduce other optical aberrations compared to a simple lens. The whole system will be smaller and lighter, and possibly cheaper than the multi-lens design.

They are commonly used in inexpensive consumer camera phones, and CD players, laser diode collimation, and for coupling light into and out of optical fibers.
