Our this model is hand made from hard wood using plank on frame construction method.
Model is handcrafted by skillful artisans with hundred hours of hand carved and hand painted. It is not kit but fully assembled and ready for immediate presentation or display.
HISTORY
Edward Sewall was the last American square-rigged ship to make a voyage from Philadelphia to Seattle in 293 days of which 67 days were required to round the Cape Horn.
Launched in 1899, Edward Sewall first entered the case oil trade, coal trade, and hauled other bulk cargoes worldwide often visiting Honolulu and other west coast ports. In 1910, the ship caught fire 1400 miles from Honolulu on voyage Newport News to Honolulu with a cargo of coal.
During 1916, Edward Sewall became the property of the Texas Company of Port Arthur, Texas. Joseph E. Sewall first captained Edward Sewall for a couple of voyages from the ship’s launch, and then Richard Quick commanded from 1901 until sold to the Alaska Packers Association in 1922 when the ship’s name changed to Star of Shetland. By 1936, she left San Francisco for Osaka where she was broken up.
