BRIEF DESCRIPTION

The model is constructed of hard wood using plank on frame construction method by skillful artisans with hundred hours of hand carved and hand painted as real ship.

Model is completely handicrafted and not kit but fully assembled and ready for immediate presentation or display.

HISTORY

RRS Discovery was the  three-masted ship to be built in Britain, was launched as a Royal Research Ship in 1901 by Lady Markham (the wife of  President of the Royal Geographical Society) and designed for Antarctic research.

Ship’s first mission was the British National Antarctic Expedition, carrying Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton on their journey known as the Discovery Expedition to the Antarctic. RRS Discovery was delivered to NERC on the 8th July 2013 by builders CNP Freire, SA from Vigo in northern Spain. Discovery had coal-fired auxiliary steam engines, but had to rely primarily on sail because the coal bunkers did not have enough capacity to take the ship on long trips. She is currently undergoing sea trials with scientific research due to start in 2014.

  Model will be extremely well packaged in a sturdy wooden crate and put in a carton box for maximum protection.
