HISTORY
Sovereign of the Seas was designed in 1630's by Phineas Pett, the first-rate ship of the line of the English Royal Navy, launched on October 1637.
The Sovereign of the Seas also known as "Golden Devil", was later renamed Sovereign and then Royal Sovereign. She participated in several battles during the Second and Third Dutch Wars between 1666-1673. The Sovereign of the Seas was present at the Battles of Beachy Head in 1690 and Barfleur in 1692. Her career came to an abrupt end when a fire burned the ship to the waterline at Chatham January 1696.
Sovereign of the Seas was the largest vessel of her time.
