Synthetic diamond

Synthetic diamond is also widely known as HPHT diamond or CVD diamond after the two common production methods (referring to the high-pressure high-temperature and chemical vapor deposition crystal formation methods, respectively).

In diamond synthesis process, when diamond, a crystal of carbon, is synthesised under high temperature and high pressure in which the diamond is thermodynamically stable, it is generally called highpressure synthesis or high temperature high pressure method.

Using Chemical Vapor Deposition or CVD, is very much like the process of creating frost on a window pane, when water molecules condense from the air and create a layer of frost. Diamond crystals are formed from a carbon-containing gas without the use of pressure. 

Polycrystalline Diamond(PCD)

Polycrystalline diamond (PCD) complex material is made by mixing fine diamond particles of micron grade, Co, Ni, and other metal powder under high pressure and high temperature, which is a new advanced cutter material sintered on WC substrate. There are many superior benefits of PCD complex, not only high hardness, wear resistance, thermal conductivity, low friction, low thermal expansion, but also with excellent strength and toughness.

The hardness of PCD material is up to 5000-8000HV, for the 80 ~ 120 times carbide; thermal conductivity is 700W/mK, which is 1.5 to 9 times carbide, even is higher than the PCBN. PCD tool may transmit heat rapidly; general friction coefficient is only 0.1~ 0.3 (carbide friction coefficient is 0.4 ~ 1), which can significantly reduce the cutting force; thermal expansion coefficient is only 0.9×10-6~1.18×10-6, equivalent to only 1 / 5 of carbide, so the heat deformation of cutter is small, high accuracy and low affinity with non-metallic materials so that the small chip won’t be easily bonded on cutter to form built-up edge. If we make comparison with PCD and carbide materials on SEM photographs, we cannot see the holes of PCD material until 2000 times magnification, which is the biggest difference with carbide.

Cubic Boron Nitride(CBN)

Cubic boron nitride(cBN) is a well known superhard material that has a wide range of industrial applications. Polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) material reach a revolutionary advancement in cutting tool technology. The benefits for users are: increasing productivity, longer tool life, better surface finish, and the ability to hold closer tolerances. PCBN is used for machining a wide variety of ferrous(like Ni.Co..etc.)materials. PCBN provides not only increased productivity but also cost saving over conventional tungsten carbide and ceramic tools.

Mono crystal Diamond/Single Crystal Diamond(MD)

Synthetic single crystal diamond is a manufactured product for industrial applications and produced by High pressure / high temperature (HPHT) or Chemical vapor deposition synthesis process.
