Tianjin SWKD Metal Materials Co., Ltd.
Tin-Free Steel (TFS) is a thin, cold rolled carbon steel sheet coated by electrolytic deposition with metallic chrome overlaid with a film of chrome oxide. Unlike tin, the chromium layers cannot be reflowed into a brighter state; therefore a coating line dedicated to chromium coating will not need a melting tower.
As its properties are similar to tinplate, TFS is often used as a lower-cost replacement for crown caps, screw caps and can ends. However, TFS is never used without any organic protection (lacquer, polymer) for food products. The lacquer provides lubrication in the production phase and protection against corrosion. Organic coatings generally have excellent adhesive properties on TFS and are used particularly for plated cans and standard food can bottoms.

Usage Precautions for TFS
TFS is not compatible with soldering and DI forming. However, once painted, it can be used in almost all applications where TIN PLATE is used.
The metallic coating layer of TFS has a high electrical resistance. When welding it, the metallic coating layers in the welded areas should be removed in advance.
TFS tends to rust in a humid atmosphere. Use as soon as possible after unpacking.
The external surfaces of cans should be painted to prevent corrosion.
The internal surfaces should also be painted to prevent corrosion except when the content is motor oil or cooking oil.
Processing of the TFS:
Packaing:
Tinplate and TFS are packed with special care to withstand severe handling in marine transit. Special care is given to prevent rust and scratching. Typical examples of packaging methods are shown above.
Marking:
Each package is marked with product name, standard, material, grade, size, temper, coating, surface finish, MFG date, net weight, gross weight, bundle number, number of sheets, origin and "SWKD GROUP". Other marks can be added, if needed.
