Samarium oxide,also called Samaria, Samarium has a high neutron absorption capacity, samarium oxide factorys have specialized uses in glass, phosphors, lasers, and thermoelectric devices. Calcium chloride crystals treated with samarium have been employed in lasers which produce beams of light intense enough to burn metal or bounce off the moon.

Use and Application
Samarium Oxide is a highly insoluble thermally stable material suitable for glass, optic and ceramic applications. Samarium oxide is prepared by thermal decomposition of samarium carbonate, nitrate, oxalate or sulfate or by burning the metal in air or oxygen at a temperature above 150 °C.
Samarium oxide forms salts upon evaporation and crystallization by dissolving in mineral acids.
Samarium Oxide is generally immediately available in most volumes. Samarium is used in laser
applications and for its dielectric properties and in filter glass on Nd:YAG solid state lasers. It forms
stable titanate compounds with useful dielectric properties. Oxide compounds are not conductive to electricity. Rare Earth oxide compounds are basic anhydrides and can therefore react with acids and with strong reducing agents in redox reactions. Samarium oxide is also available in pellets, pieces, sputtering targets, tablets, and nanopowder.
