Famille Rose is also called Fencai, which means “soft color” in Chinese. This unique technic was introduced in early Qing Dynasty (around 1650 AD) and flourished through 18th and 19th centuries. There are eight procedures during the manufacturing process: forming, drying, filling, trimming, painting, glazing, kiln filling and out of the kiln. These procedures enable Famille Rose porcelain to have more complex images with wide range of color choices.
