Intumescent Strip
intumescent fire smoke seals
expansion sealing strip
We are a manufacturing company of fire prevention products. We have developed intumescent seal designed to seal the fire door gaps during fire.
Intumescent fire seals products are those which expand (or intumesce) to several times their original size when activated by high temperatures. This action prevents the spread of flames and smoke to other parts of a building.
Under the action of heat, the PVC profile softens as the intumescent core expands sealing the gap between the door and the door frame, through which fire and toxic gas could pass. The amount of pressure developed by the expanding intumescent is dependent on the gap to be sealed. The wider the gap the lower the pressure.. The temperature at which Fireplug Intumescent strip starts to activate is 180 - 200 degrees centigrade. At this temperature no one would survive on the fireside of the door and in most cases the thermal shock would be fatal to anyone on the unexposed side opening the door. However, despite the requisite that the pressure developed by the expanding intumescent is sufficient to keep the door closed it is possible to make the door
open if required.
Useage Conditions & Storage
Safire Intumescent Fire Strip is unsuitable for use in areas subject to continuously damp or humid conditions and must not be used to isolate dampness. Not suitable for use in temperatures above 49ºC, but can be subjected to freezing conditions without risk of damage.
Store in frost-free conditions between 5ºC - 30ºC. If stored correctly has a shelf life of 12 months.
Installation Guidance
Ensure that light gauge metal channels and soffits are clean. without stretching it, unreel the self-adhesive strip and apply one strand along the whole length of the metal channel or head plate, then remove the release paper. ensure that the seal is maintained wherever one strand meets another, normally at the channel/head plate ends. Safire Fire Strip can also be used to seal small gaps in other situations.
