An introduction to interactive whiteboard response systems
This Blossom Learning information section from Mrs. Blossom’s online Smartboard training professional development series is an introduction to interactive whiteboard voting systems, also called audience response systems. Interactive whiteboard response or voting systems can be used by a teacher like Mrs. Blossom in the classroom alongside an interactive whiteboard such as a SMART Board to keep track of student feedback in many different types of interactive whiteboard applications. This Blossom Learning info section will give an overview of what interactive whiteboard voting systems are, how they work, and how they can be used with a SMART Board interactive whiteboard in the classroom to increase student participation and interaction.
What are interactive whiteboard voting systems?
Interactive whiteboard voting systems, or interactive whiteboard response systems as they are also known, are wireless hand held electronic devices, commonly called “clickers”, which are used by students to answer questions presented on a SMART Board or give other feedback which is captured in real time by an interactive whiteboard response system’s software program.
How do interactive whiteboard voting systems work?
When a teacher like Mrs. Blossom is using an interactive whiteboard response system alongside their SMART Board in the classroom, typically the teacher will ask or present a question to the class on the SMART Board, which students can then answer by pressing the buttons on their hand held remote or clicker. Their responses are transmitted by the remote or clicker by infrared or radio frequency signals which are then picked up by the interactive response system’s receiver. These captured signals are then translated by a software package into results that the teacher can see on their computer screen, such as what the students said or who answered which question correctly.
