Product Description

IP66 waterproof rubber tape Cotran KC80 Description :

  • Waterproof seal tape is a self-bonding rubber tape used for electrical insulation up to 2kV and for moisture sealing on all types of telecommunications and solid dielectric power cable.

  • It consists of an ethylene propylene rubber backer overlaid with a tacky, temperature stable, electrical grade mastic.

  • The ethylene propylene rubber backer ’s strong “memory” to return to its original shape when stretched during taping provides significant centripetal force that allows the mastic to flow into and fill every crevice and indentation in a cable jacket thereby giving a superior moisture seal in a splice or termination.

  • Both the backer and mastic components of KC80 have excellent electrical characteristics. The tape is suitable for use with conductors rated at 90°C with an emergency overload rating of 130°C.

  • Waterproof seal tape is also resistant to corrosion, chemicals and ultra violet light. Its 1.65mm thickness facilitates rapid protection build-up.

  • Use in conjunction with KC63 premium vinyl electrical tape for optimal performance.

IP66 waterproof rubber tape Cotran KC80 application:

  • Primary electrical insulation and moisture sealing in splices and terminations of solid dielectric power cable up to 2kV
  • Insulating and moisture sealing of telecommunication cable connections in base stations, antennas and aerial feeders
  • Bus bar insulation and corrosion protection
  • Cable jacketing
  • Other moisture sealing applications

FAQ

What is Self-amalgamating tape?
»»»From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Self-amalgamating tape is a non-tacky silicone-rubber tape which when stretched and wrapped around cables, electrical joints, hoses and pipes combines or unites itself into a strong, seamless, rubbery, waterproof, and electrically insulating layer. Unlike many other polymers and fibers, it is heat-, sunlight-, and weather-resistant. This type of tape is also described, particularly in the United States, as "self-fusing" or "self-vulcanizing". In the US Air Force (and elsewhere) it is called centerline tape due to a colored line running down the center used to assist with even wrapping. It is also called F4, rescue, and fix-it tape.

While not adhesive as such, its self-amalgamating property makes it function as like adhesive tape when wrapped over itself. It is supplied in rolls with an interleaving layer, to prevent the tape from amalgamating before use. It may optionally be made with an iron-oxide additive which adds high thermal conductivity. This tape is used extensively in aviation and aerospace wiring applications as a splice or wrapping tape due to its non-flammability.[citation needed] It can be used for emergency repair of leaking low-pressure hoses and pipes.

Compared to most other electrical and utility tapes, centerline tape is not particularly tough mechanically. Silicone rubber feels soft but is also susceptible to cuts and abrasion, having low "tear resistance". This weakness is made worse because this tape is wrapped while stretched, and remains under internal tension even while fused, so that any nicks or cuts may start to tear and expand without additional external tension.[6] However these same properties, combined with the lack of traditional gum adhesive, makes tape removal if needed, quick, clean, and easy.
