Seabuckthorn has a developed root system and nitrogen-fixing root nodules. Now, it has distributed in China's 19 provinces and regions with a total area of about 1.2 million hectares. In the land covered with seabuckthorn, surface runoff is reduced by 80%, topsoil loss by 75%, and wind erosion by 85%. Ecological, economic, social benefits can be achieved by planting seabuckthorn. Since the 1980s, the seabuckthorn industry has been a breakthrough in accelerating control of Loess Plateau and promoting local economic development.
