Papercuts refer to handicrafts made by cutting paper with scissors to form different patterns

Southern Dynasties (386-581) period. The initiation and spread of papercuts had

Chinese papercuts are rich in content. The auspicious designs symbolize good luck
and the avoidance of evil. The child, lotus and bottle gourd designs suggest a family

On the 20th May 2006, the heritage of paper cut art was officially listed in the first
batch of cultural heritage listing. On the 30th September 2009, Chinese paper cut was approved
into the fourth batch of <human intangible cultural heritage list of masterpiece>
by United Nations educational, scientific and cultural organization world heritage center.
As early as in Han and Tang dynasty, folk women started to stick those paper cut in
different patterns, such as, flowers, animals and historical man on the windows or doors
for ornament. Folk paper cut originated from daily life and activities.
