The Sand Rotary Dryer is made up of a large, rotating cylindrical tube, usually supported by concrete columns or steel beams. The dryer slopes slightly so that the discharge end is lower than the material feed end in order to convey the material through the dryer under gravity. Material to be dried enters the dryer, and as the dryer rotates, the material is lifted up by a series of internal fins lining the inner wall of the dryer. When the material gets high enough to roll back off the fins, it falls back down to the bottom of the dryer, passing through the hot gas stream as it falls. This gas stream can either be moving toward the discharge end from the feed end (known as co-current flow), or toward the feed end from the discharge end (known as counter-current flow). The gas stream can be made up of a mixture of air and combustion gases from a burner, in which case the dryer is called a direct heated dryer. Alternatively, the gas stream may consist of air or another (sometimes inert) gas that is preheated. When the gas stream is preheated by some means where burner combustion gases do not enter the dryer, the dryer known as an indirect-heated type. Often, indirect heated dryers are used when product contamination is a concern. In some cases, a combination of direct-indirect heated rotary dryers are also available to improve the overall efficiency.

A Sand Rotary Dryer can consist of a single shell or many, though any more than three drums is not usually necessary. Multiple drums can reduce the amount of space that the equipment consumes. Multi-shell dryers consist of several concentric tubes. Multiple shells allow the dryer to be utilized in a more compact space. The drums are often heated directly by oil or gas burners. The addition of a combustion chamber on the entry end helps ensure efficient fuel usage, and that homogenous drying air temperatures. As the material moves through the rotating drum is heated and moisture released. Some dryers also offer the option to cool, clean, shred, and/or separate the dried material.

Sand Rotary dryer working principle
Sand sent to the hopper by the belt conveyer and bucket elevator, and thl angle of materials, so that material flows into the sand dryer. Dryer cylinder is a rotating cylinder that has a certain inclination with horizontal linen through the hopper feeder into the feeding pipe, thereby entering the feeding end. The feeding pipe inclination is greater than the naturae. Material from the high-end to join, heat carrier from the low-end entry, countercurrent contact with material, also have heat carrier and material flow into the cylinder together. With the rotating cylinder materials by gravity run to the lower end. Wet material in the cylinder body to move forward, heat by heat carrier directly or indirectly, so that the wet material to be dried, then at the discharge end through a belt or a screw conveyor send out. In sand dryer inner wall of the cylinder is provided with a copy board. Heat carriers are generally divided into hot air, flue gas. Heat carrier through the dryer, then the material in the gas was collected by cyclone dust collector. If need to further reduce the exhaust gas dust content, also should dust by the bag dust collector.
