The Betel is the leaf belonging to the Piperaceae family, which includes pepper and kava. It is valued both as a mild stimulant and for its medicinal properties.

The betel plant is an evergreen and perennial creeper, with glossy heart-shaped leaves and white catkin. The betel plant originated from South and South East Asia

Uses of Betel Leaf

•   Betel leaves used for headaches, arthritis and joint pain.

•  In Indonesia leaves are chewed with betel nut, and the masticated juice swallowed for relief from coughs and asthma.

•   Betel leaf is a popular spice in south east Asian cooking, with the leaves being used raw and cooked.

• Betel leaf used  as an aromatic stimulant and antiflatulent. It is useful in arresting  bleeding and is an aphrodisiac.

• Betel leaves are beneficial in the treatment of nervous pains, nervous exhaustion and debility.

• The betel leaf has analgesic and cooling properties.

• Betel  leaves is’ effective in treating sore throat. The crushed fruit or berry should be mixed with honey and taken to relieve irritating cough.
