2-ethylhexanol is a colorless to yellowish oily liquid with a sweet taste and a faint floral scent. Soluble in 720 times water, mixed in most organic solvents. Boiling point 183 °C, melting point −76 °C(lit.), boiling point 183-186 °C(lit.), density 0.833 g/mL at 25 °C(lit.)

Product application
2-ethylhexyl alcohol, commonly known as octanol in the plasticizer neighborhood, is an important chemical raw material. Octanol in foreign countries is not only used in the production of plasticizers, but also used in the production of octanol acrylate or surfactant, etc. It can be mainly used in the production of dioctyl phthalate (dop), dioctyl glycol (doa), trioctyl dicarboxylate (totm), other plasticizers, octyl acrylate, surfactants, bone oil additives, mining, diesel fuel additives, solvents and dispensers, anti-rust esters and other chemicals. Octyl alcohol itself is a useful solvent, defoamant, dispersant, lubricant, and its series products mainly include dioctyl phthalate and octyl acrylate. Dioctyl phthalate produced by octanol is the main plasticizer of pvc. pvc consumption accounts for 95% of total consumption.
