Coconut Activated Carbon is with very large internal surface areas characterised by microporosity along with relatively high hardness and low dust make these carbons particularly attractive for water and critical air applications such as point of use water filters and respirators respectively. Steam activation and chemical activation are the two commonly used processes for the manufacture of activated carbon. However coconut shell based activated carbon units are adopting the steam activation process to produce good quality activated carbon. But to reduce the ash content, the aid washing is necessory after steam processing.
