Insulated glass consists of two panes of glass separated by a space. The perimeter of the glass issealed, allowing no movement of outside air into the space. The space itselfcan be filled with dehydrated air, or with a special gas. The type of glass,the type of spacer, and the type of gas used in the space contribute to theoverall insulating efficiency of the glass, and also the total cost.
Condensation forms when warm air is cooled. So in the case of windows,the moisture in the warmer air that is cooled condenses on the glass causingmoisture and thus condensation. Where the window has only single glazing, thecool temperature on the outside transfers easily to the inside and condensationoccurs rapidly.
With double glazing, there is improved thermal insulation between the outsideand inside due the gap between the glass layer.As a result, condensation isgreatly reduced.The benefit to you is a warmer, drier home.
